Welcome to Oxjam Bristol 2009

Oxjam Bristol is a music festival designed to raise money on behalf of Oxfam.

The first and most important ingredient is YOU. For the next few weeks, hundreds of music lovers in Bristol will act as Oxfam campaigners, staging and supporting many genres of diverse and vibrant music. This will culminate with a one day showcase of Bristol (and some surrounding area)'s musical talent at multiple venues in Bristol, on October 25th. Along the way we hope develop an awareness of climate change and it’s effects on people in third world countries.

This is why:

2009 is an all-important year in the fight against climate change. In December world leaders, from the U.S.A, Japan, China, Bangladesh and the EU, will get together at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen to decide how the world tackles climate change and global warming for decades to come. Oxfam will use their status as a huge organisation to push for governments, meeting in Copenhagen in to:

  • l Agree a deal to keep global warming below 2°C
  • l Commit adequate funding
  • l Ensure developing countries are well-represented

In the words of Oxfam’s Campaigns Director, Thomas Schultz-Jagow, this conference is "the most important meeting mankind has ever had.
